Page Tools.Halo Wars Basics: Leaders UNSC LeadersUnlike the Covenant Leaders, the UNSC Leaders are passive observers - albeit with an orbiting battleship that can deliver the pain. Each Leader has not only a devastating attack, but also a passive power and unique unit types that makes each suited for different strategies. All UNSC Leaders can call in Pelican Transports to move small groups across a map for surprise attacks. They can also, more importantly, heal groups of stationary units. Finally, the UNSC Leaders also have a tool at their disposal called a Disruption Bomb, which disrupts Leader Powers for a period of time - this is your greatest weapon against Covenant Leaders, who attack in person and can seem unstoppable. One Disruption Bomb can cease their assault just long enough to ward them off.Sergeant John ForgeUnique Troop Unit: CyclopsUnique Vehicle Unit: GrizzlyPassive Power: Instant Heavy Supply PadsLeader Power: Carpet BombSergeant Forge's Leader Power is the Carpet Bomb, a nice ground unit-damaging attack that requires slow moving or stationary targets to be effective. It's not too strong, but it's cheap.

Aug 19, 2017  Grunts, the low level, pesky laborers of the Covenant. While not the smartest species in the Halo universe, in packs, these little guys can cause some serious damage; that is, with the proper leadership. Enter Yapyap THE DESTROYER, the unofficial leader of the Grunts, who stays behind the.

Forge's greatest advantage is passive - he builds Advanced Supply Pads off the bat. This means more cash faster. Thus, Forge is a good character to use for 'rushing,' which involves building a large but low tech army and overwhelming your enemy early. If you attack their base, you could technically bring his unique units, building-smashing Cyclopes, but you should probably concentrate instead on Grenadier Warthogs, and lots of them.Conversely, Forge's Grizzlies, another unique unit, are incredible war machines, and in some ways more desirable than the Vulture uber units. They are incredibly expensive and you'll need reactors to boot, so out-teching your opponent is another possibility with the versatile Forge.Captain CutterUnique Troop Unit: ODSTUnique Vehicle Unit: ElephantPassive Power: Tech Level +1Leader Power: MAC BlastMost likely the worst Leader in the game, Cutter has a great Leader Power, the MAC blast, but not much else going for him.

This cheap ability can be used to devastate bases and slow units. His passive ability leaves a lot to be desired: all of your bases start out as Fortresses. This saves you some time and 400 supplies per base, but is pretty lame. His Elephant, which can create Marines and Flamethrowers in the field, sounds like it would be good for rushing an enemy, but any human opponent won't be fooled, and will usually be able to counter by turning all guns on the Elephant. The ODST units at his disposal can be dropped into a fight from orbit, making them good for surprise attacks as well. If you have to play as Cutter, then, try to do a heavy infantry rush and hope for the best.Professor Ellen AndersUnique Vehicle Unit: GremlinUnique Air Unit: HawkAdvantage: Upgrades and Research Time HalvedLeader Power: Cryo BombAnders's Cryo Bomb Leader Power is expensive and can only be used effectively in very specific situations.

Halo Wars 2 Grunt Leader

It drops Air Units out of the sky for an instant kill, so use it on fleets of enemy Banshees and Vampires for a comical victory. Other than that, it's just too expensive and short-lived to be effective. Also, it can freeze friendlies, so beware! Her passive power makes her the ideal candidate for out-teching your opponent.

With upgrades half price and research time halved, you can get a pack of Vultures and, even better, Hawks, in the air in no time. Hawks, fully upgraded, and unique, Hornets are the best air unit in the game, period. Her other unique unit is the Gremlin, which is a fairly useless anti-ground vehicle unit. If you have a fleet of air units, you don't exactly need an anti-vehicle ground unit.Covenant LeadersThe Covenant Leaders are quite different from their UNSC counterparts and will take some getting used to if you are used to the more passive roles of the orbit-bound UNSC Leaders. The Covenant Leaders appear on the ground, and can be directly controlled by the player. This makes them the focus of your strategies - that and the fact that the teleporter in front of your Citadel takes forces directly to the Leader's location.

You must summon Covenant Leaders at the Temple. They have their own life bars, and if they fall, you'll have to wait a bit to summon them again. Playing as the Covenant requires a good grasp of how and when to use your Leaders.ArbiterUnique Troop Unit: Suicide GruntLeader Power: RageThe Arbiter's Leader Power is much more effective once upgraded to Defiant Rage - this will allow the Arbiter to heal a bit for each unit he takes down. While in rage, you can direct the Arbiter to attack any ground unit or building. He'll cut through ground forces like a hot Beam Sword through butter.

Beware when attacking UNSC bases though, since one Disruption Bomb could ruin everything. The Arbiter's unique units are Suicide Grunts, which can be teleported in behind the Arbiter to effectively take out buildings, but you'll find that the regular infantry units are better choices in the long run since they don't, uh, explode. We used the Arbiter most as a defensive unit, which effectively allows you to up your tech level in safety. That said, he should be at the frontlines after you have some turrets. And the Defiant Rage upgrade as he's a one-alien uber unit.Prophet of RegretUnique Troop Unit: Elite Honor GuardLeader Power: CleansingThe Prophet is a strange bird, but when he hovers in close to a UNSC base, beware. Calling a controlled pillar of laser death is his Leader Power, and he calls it 'Cleansing.' Use this to wreak havoc on buildings, especially early on in your opponent's buildup.

Other than that, he has an OK unique unit, the Honor Guard, which has no ranged attack, but will keep the Prophet safe from ground units rather effectively. This doesn't mean a Disruption Bomb and some air units can't wipe him out if you aren't careful.Brute ChieftainUnique Troop Unit: BruteUnique Vehicle Unit: Brute ChopperLeader Power: VortexThe Brute Chieftain isn't nearly as powerful as the Arbiter as a fighter. His Vortex ability sends a damaging ball of energy around that can be exploded to deal high damage to a small group of targets. The downside is that he remains stationary during the Vortex, leaving him susceptible to Disruption Bombs and focused attacks. He makes up for his lack of abilities with his troop units - the Brute Chopper and Brute infantry units. Both are the best the Covenant has to offer in their respective categories.

Unfortunately, infantry and scout units can't be used to win most battles directly, but they can be used strategically to conquer a map. Capturing bases and Supply Pads with a fleet of Choppers is a great tactic. These units are a bit more expensive, but are built to last, often gaining Veterancy on the field.

Winning with the Brute Chieftain is tough, and a good understanding of the map is essential. Get the Brutes into a sniper tower or the like and they won't be easily removed.
