Youngsters here may not know, but that movie did a LOT of damage to Turkey's tourism at a time it was trying to build it's international interests. There are tons of politically-tied groups that supported the movie, and of course tons of patriotic groups that tried to fight it.In the end as was said above, the movie was quite controversial at the time, displaying Turkey as a back-woods hillbilly country that has no respect for anything but money blablabla.Whenever a friend brings up the topic, I tend to point them to similar topics here in the US such as prison 'culture' etc and that tends to quell any troll moment. Besides, whoever said prisons are supposed to be a good experience ffs?? But I digress.At the end of the day, it's a piece of art, depicting an idiot that thought he could get away with a crime that is punishable by death in a few countries even today in 2014, and his experience in a 70's-80's Turkish justice system.As long as you take the propaganda with a grain of salt, it ain't that bad honestly. I love the Airplane movie reference to it;) (say there Jimmy, have you ever been to a Turkish prison?
