(Taiwan-specific)(I think this one is only available in the US)and of course if you know what you are looking for (one place to look things up is )At most of these sites, it's pretty easy to find the Chinese/Taiwanese categories. As for what I'd recommend.well, I'm a girl, so I do have a slight weakness for cheesy drama-comedies, and Taiwan has a lot of those (see: Idol dramas). I've recently been watching this show called Ti Amo Chocolate, which I think is hilarious, but every time I try to explain the plot to my boyfriend, he thinks I'm out of my mind. Maybe I'm not the best judge of a worthwhile show. I would just try a few out if I were you. Just a trio of concrete recommendations. The highest-budget piece of Mandarin media ever created.

95 episodes, 45 mins each. Based on one of the four cornerstones of Chinese vernacular literature.

Learn about high culture and history. Lots of swords and horses, lots of character development. High production values Taiwanese police drama. 24 episodes, 50 mins each. Gets off to a goofy start, but becomes much more watchable after the first 10 mins, and much more watchable still after the first 4-5 episodes.

Hong Kong movie. A policeman infiltrates a triad, a gangster infiltrates the police. So highly regarded it was released in the USA, which is rare for an Eastern film. Remade by Martin Scorsese into the (much inferior) The Departed. 喜羊羊 is a silly cartoon show with sheep and wolves. I recommend the full-length movies-there are a bunch and they are actually quite fun to watch.非诚勿扰 is a dating show based in Nanjing.

There are a bunch of women who listen to male guests introduce themselves and indicate whether or not they would be interested in going out with them. It's very fake and superficial at times (my Chinese friend even told me the show was immoral and never to watch it) but it's also very popular and is a good source for authentic spoken language. They have a youtube channel that they use to upload shows.I also recommend 快乐汉语. 家有儿女 - If you've watched TV in China, you've seen this. Accent is very beijing-y.任我遨游 - From Singapore, so they swim in sui3.:-)喜羊羊与灰太狼 - Already recommended by others.

Surprisingly fun to watch. Movies suck, stick with the tv-series.李小龙传奇 - About Bruce Lee.

I watched this a long time ago and if I remember correctly they used voice over even though it's a Chinese show. A bit corny, but I watched it all and enjoyed it.The following are all Japanese, but can be found in Chinese if you search for 国语版蜡笔小新 - Quite funny, but gets a bit repetitive after a while. Watch out for the protagonists 'wrong sayings'.名侦探柯南 - You will learn how to say 'murder' in all kinds of different ways.海贼王 - Pirate themed manhua. As for movies, except for Infernal affairs (already recommended) I really liked 導火綫. Dubbed from cantonese, I believe.edit: I'd like to add that i HATED 快乐汉语 that everyone seems to praise.
