So.I'm not up to medical yet, this game still makes me shit my pants. I just got past mission 3 I think? With all the androids on Nightmare. I called the train, 2 humans walk out the train, and bam the Alien drops down. I dead set shit my pants, basically just crossed my fingers looked away and walked in the train hoping for the best and got away.Is it mean to drop down this early? I figured the mod would only kick in once I past medical, now I'm in engineering and it's on the scanner running around in the vents and I'm terrified it's here already, what is going on?EDIT: Jesus fucking christ.
No warning it's just walking around hunting for me. I took precaution and hid behind something and fuck me I pop my head up and it's just having a walk around I nearly fucking died.Wait am I lost? It's all a dead end? It's okay, Nightmare doesn't give me a map I took the wrong train!.
SPOILER. I feel the same way, the Unpredictable alien mod managed to change my mind. It untethers the Alien from Amanda so that the Alien doesn't get hints as to what area you might be as in normal gameplay. With the mod there may be long periods where you don't see the Alien at all, but it's always searching desperately. I found it a welcome change from constantly having the Alien on your ass in the later missions, the trade off is that the Aliens movements will be quite surprising, often missing you by inches when it does show up.
I'm pretty sure that once you meet it in Tech Support for the first (second?) time you can get him to drop if you make enough noise. Certainly, it can be dangerous even going for the elevator to Communications, though some players get lucky. Normally, the Alien's AI isn't set very aggressive in the early SysTech Lobby, but if you go firing your gun and hitting the wall, he'll show up.I like the unpredictable mod because at least it means that, while the Alien isn't always on your ass, he can also show up when you least expect it. Probably more realistic in that he might have 'heard someone else way over there' and gone after them, but probably not best for a first playthrough. About Unpredictable Alien AI mod on Nightmare setting:If you playthrough the game several times from beginning to end without this mod, the A.I. Will eventually adjust to every square inch of the player's actions, movements & tactics.Putting in the Unpredictable AI mod simply ramps up the creature's actions without any of the player explorations very similar to Baiter from William's Electronics Defender.Even if the player did not add the mod, the creature will eventually become 'Unpredictable' through many playthroughs because of how advanced its A.I.
Alien Isolation Alien Model
Rules are programmed into it. I understand where you're coming from, but.Try to see this issue from my perspective. There is a reason why this type of option was not included in the final product. It was egregious enough that the game was not well received years ago, despite its well-known license, making it even more discerning to add rejected material that didn't make it in the final product. Whether the program makes the game easier or not, it doesn't belong in the game.I am certain that the game designers agonized over every possible design decision ever discussed but whatever decision was made, first & foremost the end product must be fun to play.I respect the game designers decisions because they are the professionals.
They know (or at least they should) what's fun because they were once gamers themselves.Unpredictable Alien doesn't sound like fun to me. In a way I actually kind of agree with you. I only tried Unpredictable Alien a couple of times in the hope it would lead to some new and interesting experience, but it only made the game easier and the threat more watered down which wasn't what I was looking for.I know that some appreciate the increased realism of this mod, but for me a game should be a game first and thus gameplay should take precedence over other considerations.
For reasons like you mention I concur that everyone should play the game in its vanilla state for their first couple of playthroughs so that they get the developers' intended experience, but if they love it enough that they want to play it again further times then there is no harm in using a mod to try something different.I have no idea what a 'vanilla state' is.You misunderstand where I'm coming from. The 'Unpredictable Alien AI' is a pointless endeavor. Alien: Isolation's AI will eventually evolve into the same state as the mod suggests through multiple playthroughs. The real harm of installing unofficial foreign material is the risk of corruption to the game's files as well as the user's computer files.Again, not much fun there.. Depends greatly on your playstyle.Do you save every time you reach a save kiosk?Have you ever played, from beginning to end, without saving?Did it ever occur to you that the behavior of the Alien appears '.far, far less aggressive & problematic.' Because you have improved your game?I dunno 'bout you but I've noticed a markedly difference in the creature's behavior that it ' learns' everything I did previously through many playthroughs based on my observation. As I've written before, the 'Unpredictable Alien AI' mod is ridiculous and unnecessary, if not, possibly toxic.
